Trivia : Monica was Chitra Singh's daughter from her first marriage to
Debo Prasad Dutta.

Monica Choudhary committed suicide by hanging herself to death at her home in Mumbai.on May 29, 2009.
Monica married Cinematographer Jehangir Choudhary in 1988.
In 2005, she divorced him and married Briton Mark Houghton Roger Atkins, Managing Director of a Vikhroli based firm.
However, she was second time unlucky in marriage, and thus, suffered from depression due to her disturbed married life.

This is Vivek Singh Lane, on Breach Candy in Mumbai.
This lane is dedicated to Jagjit Singh's son Vivek, who died in a car accident in early 1990's.

Cricketer Sairaj Bahutale

Cricketer Sairaj Bahutule was in the same car as his friend Vivek Singh, which met with an accident. Luckily, he survived with minor injuries.

Trivia : 'Vivek Singh Young Achiever Award' is an award started by the Harpal Tiwana foundation, Ludhiana, Punjab, in the memory of Jagjit Singh’s son Vivek.

Jagjit Singh once broke down to tears at the mention of his son, when the winner of Star Voice of India, Ishmeet Singh, was awarded the 'Vivek Singh Young Achiever Award.'

Singer Ishmeet Singh was found dead, drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel in Maldives on July 29th 2008.

Udham Singh Kamboj alias Shaheed Udham Singh, Revolutionary Freedom Fighter

Trivia : Shaheed-i-Azam Sardar Udham Singh was also known as Ram Mohammed Singh Azad, symbolizing the unification of the three major religions of India :
Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism.
He was an Indian independence activist, best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in March 1940, in what has been described as an avenging of the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre.

F) Jagjit Singh is the only composer and singer to have composed and record songs written by an incumbent Prime Minister - Atal Bihari Vajpayee, also a critically acclaimed poet - in two albums, Nayi Disha (1999) (Two songs were composed and sung by Jagjit Singh) and Samvedna (2002), released by Saregama.


Jagjit Singh composed the music of 'Samvedna' and captured the essence of each poem in his cherished voice.

All the following people were a part of the album 'Samvedna'.


The album was based on songs written by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
It featured Atalji's own narrative in which he recounts his feelings and emotions behind writing each poem.



Yash Chopra shot the Music Video, 'Kya Khoya Kya Paaya', for this album.



The penentrating script for the Preface of this album was written by Javed Akhtar.
He analysed the birth of a poet in Vajpayee, despite leading such a busy political life.

A translation of the Preface :
"On the path of thought, every individual becomes lonely and this is true even of Vajpayee. And it is this loneliness that marks the birth of poetry" - Javed Akhtar



The Preface was read out by Amitabh Bachchan in his reverberating voice.



The Music Video was picturised on Shahrukh Khan.
Atal ji also makes a brief appearance in the video.



The album was released by Sitar maestro, Pandit Ravi Shankar a.k.a. Robindro Shaunkor Chowdhury.

Trivia : Ravi Shankar is the younger brother of renowned Indian Dancer and Choreographer, Uday Shankar Chowdhury.

About the songs in the album :
"Kya Khoya Kya Paaya" is a song that takes stock of life. It is a simple song without much ornamentation and sounds like a chant.

"Ek Baras Beet Gaya" is a song penned on the first anniversary of the Emergency.
It was written by Atal ji while he was still in jail.
The song has some warm phrases on the violin.
The effect of "Ek baras beet gaya", sung in counters, gives the feeling of a year that has gone by in futility.

"Chaurahe Par" is another sensitive poem expressing the dilemma of an innocent bystander caught at the crossroads of life.
The song has an Arabic feel to it.

"Kadam Milakar" is a fast-paced song. Atal ji remembers days after the emergency, when he went to the Raj Ghat with Jayaprakash Narayan and took an oath to stand united.
"But that never happened. We never lived up to the promise. JP saw the party crumble and I'm guilty too," he confesses.
This was written after the dismal failure of the Janata Party Coalition at the Centre.
This poem stresses the need to remain united, and has a nationalist fervour to it.
It is painted on a vast scape of Trumpets and Drums.

"Door Kahin Koi Rota Hai" is a pensive, reflection on ironies of life and death.

"Jeeven Beet Chala" is another beautiful song which mentions that nowadays, life is measured in 'Haani-Laabh Ke Palde Mein'.

Trivia : Jagjit Singh's first break was with the Kolynos toothpaste jingle.




One of Hindustan Lever Limited's (now Hindustan UniLever) famous brand is Lifebuoy Soap.



Lintas (now Lowe Lintas) started as an in-house agency of Hindustan Lever.
P&G were trying to be the first to launch a health brand in India.
Lintas beat them by a month, and launched Lifebuoy soap, which continues to be the leading brand in the country.

Lintas created a T.V. ad for Lifebuoy in the 70's.
The jingle "Tandurusti Ki Raksha Karta Hai Lifebuoy", was first used in this ad campaign.

Trivia : Director and Cinematographer Govind Nihalani once Directed a 'Lifebuoy'
commercial which featured, model Ashutosh Gowariker.



Actor Suresh Oberoi has appeared in Print Ads of Lifebuoy Soap.


Brij Bhushan Sahni

Brij Bhushan Sahni is a famous Radio Announcer, Music Director, Documentary Producer and an Actor.
He worked as an Announcer on Vividh Bharati, India's most loved Radio Channel.
He is the composer of 'Tandurusti Ki Raksha Karta Hai Lifebuoy', the famous jingle.

Trivia : Brij Bhushan Sahni has composed music for B.R. Ishara's 'Milap' (1972) and
has acted in a few films including Tanuja Chandra's 'Sangharsh' (1999).



Madhubala's younger sister Zahida is married to Brij Bhushan Sahni.
Post marriage, she is known as Madhur Bhushan.

Jagjit Singh features in the print advertisement of Torex Cough Syrup, and in their T.V. ad, he appears along with Actors, Om Puri and Anju Mahendru.

Talat Aziz a.k.a. Talat Abdul Aziz Khan was discovered by Sanjeev Kohli (of RPG records), son of Music Director Madan Mohan.
Jagjit Singh had heard Talat Aziz sing at a Mehfil in Hyderabad, so he agreed to compose his first album, which was a phenomenal success.
This album, released in 1979 was titled "Jagjit Singh presents Talat Aziz".
The Ghazals, aptly selected by Jagjit Singh himself, ranged from the traditional to the modern scintilating tunes which created an indelible impact.

Trivia : Tennis player Sania Mirza is the niece of Talat Aziz. Sania’s grandmother is his aunt.
When Talat first came to Mumbai in 1976 to make his career, he stayed at Sania’s grandmother, Raeesa Mirza’s house in Colaba. Her husband Zafar was the Chief Engineer with Central Railways.
Sania's father, Imran Mirza, was in High School then.
